The town of Zapata, the seat of Zapata County, is a charming border destination. Zapata is the home of Falcon Lake, considered the second largest fresh water lake in Texas with 87,300 acres along the Rio Grande River. The lake has been named the number one bass fishing spot in Texas.

Fishing is popular year round for bass, crappie, and catfish. The shores of Falcon Lake are also perfect for bird watching. Almost any prized birds on any birder's list can be seen here. The white-collared seedeater is a rare prize. Drive in from Laredo and check out the Colonel Antonio Zapata Museum, or play 9 at Los Ebanos Golf Course – it's a fun executive course.
