Visiting Big Bend Country

Quintessential Texas – the Lone Star State’s Big Bend Country. Tumbleweeds rolling across sandy plains filled with scrub brush and cacti are the back drop for historic communities from Midland and Odessa south to Big Bend National Park and west to El Paso and the Guadalupe Mountains National Park. Celebrate Texas heritage and culture at Big Bend Country events including the World’s First Rodeo at June’s West of the Pecos Rodeo, or the West Texas Guitar Festival at the Midland-Odessa Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center. From El Paso, the largest city on the US’ southern border through the 41,000 square miles eastward – enjoy Texas Big Bend Country.

The Midland County Horseshoe hosts the 2013 Great Outdoors Expo, May 10th through 12th. Fishing, hunting and camping enthusiasts mark your calendar for the expo marking its third year in Midland. Produced by Silver Spur Trade Shows, Midland’s Great Outdoor Expo draws vendors from across Texas and the US to showcase the latest gear and equipment for outdoor fun. Bring the family, the expo features kids activities and a look at everything you need to enjoy Texas Big Bend Country.

Music fans mark El Paso on your map for the 2013 Neon Desert Music Festival. The third year for the event takes place in downtown El Paso on May 25th. Look for multiple stages in and around San Jacinto Plaza and the El Paso Museum of History, ready to host local and national acts. Enjoy music and dancing at the Neon Desert Music Festival and help make it an on-going El Paso tradition.

The Permian Basin's Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center is hub of culture and entertainment for Midland and Odessa. See 2013 performances by the Midland-Odessa Symphony & Chorale in April; events including the MOSC Kid’s Choir on the 21st and the MOSC Chorale on the 28th. The world famous Blue Man Group takes the stage on May 1st and 2nd, with George Jones performing in concert June 14th.

Visitors to Odessa and Midland in March don’t miss the 2013 West Texas Guitar Festival the 7th through the 9th. Saturday night’s headliner is guitarist Andrew York, with locals night and student choice Thursday and Friday nights featuring local West Texas student groups and performers.

The World’s First Rodeo returns to the West Texas, Big Bend Country community of Pecos June 26th through 29th. The 2013 West of the Pecos Rodeo is held at Buck Jackson Arena, and continues the tradition of the Pecos Rodeo begun in 1883. Be sure to get your tickets for one of four performances of the West of the Pecos Rodeo at Buck Jackson Arena.
