Visiting Big Bend Country

Out in the Big Bend Country of western Texas, you’ll find a wide range of charming towns and cities, all home to their own brand of Texas-sized fun. During the coming fall and winter, Big Bend Country welcomes you with an impressive list of must-see attractions, premier annual events, and even some top shelf concerts. Whether you explore the far west out in El Paso, or you stick to a more central location in Abilene, you’ll find just the ticket for fun this fall in Big Bend Country.

One of the top destinations in Big Bend Country is Amarillo. Thanks to a wide range of can’t-miss attractions like the iconic Cadillac Ranch, and Comanche Trail Golf Course – the fall really is the best time to play 18 holes – Amarillo is sure to entertain.

You can make the drive in from nearby Canyon and check out the Amarillo Farm & Ranch Show. From November 29th to October 1st, the Amarillo Civic Center will feature the latest and greatest tools, toys, and gadgets in the world of agriculture and forestry.

Make the most of your holiday visit to Amarillo this year. Head to the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts over the weekend of December 9th to see a live production of the classic ballet, The Nutcracker. As performed by the Lone Star Ballet, there will be five total shows – 8 p.m. on Friday, 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, and 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. to close it out on Sunday.

Most travelers who make their way through Big Bend Country find time to explore Abilene, and you’ll certainly want to include a stay here on your agenda. You can check out the 18th Annual 24fps International Short Film Festival on November 4th and 5th. This year’s short film fest will be held at the Paramount Theatre.

College football fanatics touring through Big Bend Country often make direct trips into El Paso. During the fall, the college football season takes center stage El Paso, otherwise known as Miners country.

The University of Texas at El Paso Miners kickoff their 2016-17 season at home against the New Mexico State Aggies on September 3rd. The Miners wrap up their regular season with an in-state rivalry match-up against the North Texas Mean Green on November 26th. All UTEP Miners home football games are played at Sun Bowl Stadium.
