American Southwest Conference Rises
A smaller conference by nature of big name schools, the American Southwest Conference was founded in 1996, and features 16 members from Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi. Fielding sports teams that compete at the Division III level, the American Southwest Conference headquartered out of Richardson, a suburb of Dallas.
Texas plays a predominant role in the American Southwest Conference. With 12 of the 16 teams in the American Southwest Conference calling Texas cities home, it’s easy to see why. McMurry University calls Abilene home – be sure to visit this fall for the thrilling action of War Hawks football. Abilene features the Dyess Air Force Base, and the Abilene Zoo – two great choices for fans looking for something to do before kickoff. Marshall, a pleasant city set in eastern Texas, is home to East Texas Baptist University. East Texas travelers looking for the charge of hard hits and touchdowns head to the Ornelas Stadium, the home field of the ETBU Tigers.
