It’s a year of anniversary celebrations for two of the Alamo City’s most popular attractions – the San Antonio Zoo and Sea World San Antonio. The San Antonio Zoo celebrates 100 years of operation with Zootennial, which coincides with the unveiling of an all-new giraffe exhibit and the Zootennial Plaza, complete with a 300-person, full-service restaurant. Sea World San Antonio is a relative newcomer – the theme park celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, promising a “sea of surprises” in addition to its aquariums, animal exhibits, and thrill rides.

The 2014 Laborfest San Antonio brings the smooth sounds of old school R&B to Sunken Gardens in San Antonio on August 30th and 31st. Along with headliners Keith Sweat, Rose Royce, and the Ohio Players, the festival features family fun and fried favorites like catfish, shrimp, wings, pork chops, turkey legs, and more.

Foodies fill the San Antonio River Walk, September 9th through 11th, when the 2014 Bud Light Taste of the River Walk brings the culinary offerings of more than 35 local establishments. Visit to sample the wide range of River City flavors while enjoying the shaded riverside path in perfect weather.

On Saturday, October 18th, Maverick Park hosts the 2014 San Antonio Beer Festival, inviting visitors to sample the suds of over 200 breweries from San Antonio and around the world, including local staple Ranger Creek Brewery. The festivities also feature live music and entertainment, wine tastings, interactive games, and plenty of food.

The roots of San Antonio’s southwestern culture run deep and communities throughout the Southern Plains – from Kerville and Cotulla to San Marcos and Cuero – maintain traditions through a variety of festivals, events, and activities. November 1st and 2nd, the 2014 Dia De Los Muertos Celebration takes over El Mercado at Market Square, as well as galleries, cultural centers, cemeteries, and restaurants throughout the city and the surrounding area. The “Day of the Dead” welcomes back departed loved ones and commemorates their lives through art, poetry, music, and large-scale calavera processions in which participants dress as skeletons.
