Visiting San Antonio | Spring 2015

As spring breathes new life into the air, the San Antonio landscape emerges from winter, yielding a wealth of adventure for you and the family. San Antonio is one of the major metro areas in Texas, with a wide range of historic, scenic, and family-friendly sights to see and do. The surrounding Southern Plains area of Texas offers it’s own unique blend of attractions and pleasant cities.

From professional sports, to them parks fit for all members of the family, and a robust list of historic sites, San Antonio makes for the ideal spring destination. And for the of-age crowd, there are even some distilleries to explore.

The Alamo is, quite possibly, one of the most iconic Texas landmarks around – and springtime makes for the perfect backdrop for your visit. Hosting more than 2.5 million eager guests each year, The Alamo appeals to a wide breadth of visitors.

There’s never an admission fee to explore The Alamo, and it’s open for tours and exploration every day of the year, minus Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Insider’s tip: it is advised you remove your hat upon entering The Alamo, as it is considered a Shrine of Texas Liberty.

Any San Antonio visit during spring should most definitely include a stop at the famous San Antonio River Walk. If your visit to the River Walk is in mid-March, it’s a near must you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at their event: Murphy’s St. Patrick’s Day River Parade & Festival, held on March 14th and 15th.

Make the short and scenic drive in to San Antonio from nearby Lytle or Shertz and check out what is surely to be a favorite for the kids – Disney on Ice Presents: Frozen! April 2nd through 5th, make your way to the Alamodome near downtown San Antonio and enjoy the smash hit movie, but set on ice.

Northeast of downtown San Antonio is New Braunfels. A quaint and charming suburb, New Braunfels is home to the very popular wine maker, Dry Comal Creek Vineyards.

Whether you prefer reds or whites – or even a blend; no one’s judging – explore the Dry Comal Creek Vineyard on a tour, then enjoy some samples at the Dry Comal Creek Tasting Room. Feel free to purchase a bottle or two if you find a new favorite Texas wine. Make the short drive in from nearby San Marcos.

Back in San Antonio, be sure to book a tee time for the challenging, yet very scenic, Republic Golf Club. Once rated as the Number one area golf course by The Express News, The Republic is 18 holes and plays to a par of 71.
