Visiting Amarillo, Lubbock & the Panhandle
Summer’s long days will begin to wane, and the cooler temperatures will soon sweep into the Texas Panhandle region. A bevy of impressive, can’t-miss attractions will be on display this fall. Plan your next visit to cities like Amarillo and Lubbock and experience premier events, festivals, and concerts this fall.
Many know Amarillo thanks in part to Cadillac Ranch – definitely worth adding to the travel agenda this fall. But be sure to also bring along your clubs during this fall’s visit, as the Comanche Trail Golf Course will yield one of the most exceptional golf outings in the state. It’s a quick drive in from nearby suburbs like Borger, Pampa, and Hereford.
Enjoy some live, local music during your visit to Amarillo. On December 2nd, visit the very charming Golden Light Cantina to see Mike and the Moonpies perform live on stage at 8 p.m. For a slightly more cultured affair, visit the Amarillo Civic Center December 9th through 11th for a live production of the holiday classic, The Nutcracker.
Out in Lubbock, you’ll be entering into Red Raiders territory this fall. The Texas Tech University Red Raiders kick off their 2016 regular season at home against the Stephen F. Austin Jacks on September 3rd. Two of their 2016 marquee match-ups occur in later in the year. On October 22nd, the Oklahoma Sooners will be in town, and on November 5th, in-state rivals University of Texas Longhorns pay the Red Raiders a visit. All Red Raiders home games are played at the Jones AT&T Stadium. You can make the short, scenic drive in for exciting college football from nearby cities like Post, Levelland, and Lamesa.
Country music star Chris Young will perform live in Lubbock on October 6th at the United Spirit Arena, and you’ll find even more excellent performances this fall. On October 15th, the popular, if not controversial, hip-hop group Insane Clown Posse will perform live at Jake’s Sports Café & Backroom – no word on how much, if any, Faygo brand soda will be on hand.
Your visit to the Texas Panhandle this fall should almost certainly include a stay in Abilene. You’ll be treated to some premier, grade-A racing this fall in Abilene. Visit the Abilene Speedway for the annual Abilene Speedway Southern Challenge on October 14th and 15th – kids five and under gain free admission to one of this fall’s premier IMCA Stock Car competitions. Make the drive in from nearby Sweetwater.
