Visiting Amarillo, Lubbock, & the Panhandle

It’s springtime in the Texas Panhandle. The vast and uniquely Texan landscape is filling with color and residents and visitors are heading outdoors for all sorts of activities. What’s more, event calendars in communities from Amarillo to Lubbock to Abilene are fillings with a wealth of special events, festivals, and family-friendly fun.

Warming weather means it’s time to get back out on the green, and the Panhandle region is home to numerous top-flight golf courses. Golfers in Hereford and Canyon won’t have trouble seeing why John Pitman Municipal Golf Course made Golf Digest’s list of “Places to Play.” To the northeast in Amarillo, the Comanche Trail Golf Course a the go-to for players of all skill levels. Further south in Lubbock, The Rawls Golf Course draws people from Levelland and beyond.

On April 1st, the 2016 Outlaws and Legends Music Fest comes to the Back Porch of Texas in Abilene – no foolin’. The two-day extravaganza boasts a hardcore country music fan’s dream lineup, promising performances by Jerry Jeff Walker Pat Green, Deana Carter, and Dean Dillon & the Texas Jam Band.

Of course, it’s not all boots and spurs in Abilene. That same weekend, the Allen Theater, on the Texas Tech University campus, hosts Complexions, a contemporary ballet performance by the group known as "America's original multicultural dance company.” Show time is 7 p.m. on April 1st.

On April 14th, rock legends ZZ Top bring decades of hits like “La Grange” and “Sharp Dressed Man” to the Lonestar Amphitheater in Lubbock. Get your tickets now – it’s a safe bet this show will sell out.

Stick around to find a sense of Lubbock’s local art scene on April 16th and 17th at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. The 2016 Lubbock Arts Festival showcases the work of more than 150 artists working in a wide variety of different media. Check local listings for more information on how to be a part of workshops, demonstrations, discussions, and more.
