Known as the "Birthplace of the Texas flag," Montgomery TX was established in 1827 as the second of Stephen F. Austin's colonies. Dr. Charles Bellinger Stewart, a resident of the town, designed the first Republic of Texas flag and official seal, which was approved in 1839. The town is one of the oldest towns in Texas.
