At the southern ridge of Lake Conroe, discover Montgomery. A choice destination in the greater Houston area, and known as the "Birthplace of the Texas Flag," Montgomery was established in 1827 as the second of Stephen F. Austin's colonies. Dr. Charles Bellinger Stewart, a resident of the town, designed the first Republic of Texas flag and official seal, which was approved in 1839.
More than 30 historic homes and buildings are located throughout Montgomery, and a self-guided city tour guide is available. Montgomery is located near the southwestern edge of Sam Houston National Forest – offering an abundance of opportunity for outdoor recreation.
