Kids-Friendly Texas Panhandle
Northern Texas is where the little cowboy in your family can have some real fun – Old West style. Cadillacs, rodeos, and western fare await your family vacation to the Texas Panhandle.
Get your camera ready for your trip to the famed Cadillac Ranch – set along Interstate 40 just west of Amarillo. Your family is encouraged to sign their name or draw a little picture on the cars, so be sure to get creative. Looking for lunch, Texas style? Head into town for a visit to the Big Texan Steak Ranch – easily spotted thanks to the gigantic cowboy sign. For more Old West fun in north Texas, check out the West of The Pecos Rodeo – said to be the world’s first rode. Founded in 1883 and set in Pecos, this four-day summer rodeo is held at the Buck Jackson Arena.
If the kids are looking to run around during their north Texas vacation, take them to Lubbock for a day at Mackenzie Park. The 250-acre public recreation area is home to the American Windmill Museum, Meadowbrook Golf Course, and the ALON/USA Fina "Crossroads of Time" sculpture garden. Kids get a kick out of Prairie Dog Town, and the onsite Joyland Amusement Park.
