Kid-Friendly Activities in Hill Country
Family Fun in Austin & Johnson City
Hill Country is a region in central Texas, and home to Austin, Waco, and Fredericksburg. Whether looking for a summer swim, or festive lights during the holiday season, Hill Country has your family covered.
Austin may be known for it’s unique boutiques and rock ‘n’ roll streets, but this capital city has many amenities for the little ones as well.
The little paleontologist in your family may enjoy the Dino Pit at the Austin Nature & Science Center, as well as the many wildlife exhibits. Located in Zilker Park, ANSC has been a home base for child education since 1960. Found on the banks of the Colorado River, ANSC also features the Naturalist Workshop and Trade Counter, and Beverly S. Sheffield Education Center.
Looking to cool off during your summer trip to Austin? Suit up the kids and hit the historic Deep Eddy Pool, an Austin landmark since 1915 and member of the National Register of Historic Places. A public pool fed by a 35-foot hand-dug well, Deep Eddy is not chlorinated, so there’s no need to worry about the little one’s eyeballs.
Of course families are welcome to Hill Country during the holiday season as well. Visit Johnson City for the Hill Country Lights Spectacular – over 500,00 lights on display during this drive-through holiday showcase.
Enjoy your time in central Texas with the family.
