From: DFW Airport. Take north Exit from Airport and follow Highway 114 East. Then Exit Northwest Highway, split to left from Highway 114. Follow Northwest Highway for about three miles and the BEST WESTERN PLUS Northwest Inn is on left hand side.

Dallas Heritage Village

Dallas Love Field

Dallas Love Field, named after First Lieutenant Moss Lee Love, began as an Army flying field, in 1917. In 1929, the first passenger service was provided by Delta Air Service. This northwest Dallas Air Field was used for flight training, during World War II, by the United States Army Air Forces. At the end of the War, an additional runway and terminal was added and commercial flights resumed. The airport remained the main airport for Dallas, until the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport opened in 1974.

Dallas Love Field has been the headquarters for Southwest Airlines since they began flight service in 1971. Due to Southwest Airlines' success offering short flights, additional commercial airlines began offering flights from Love Field. John Fitzgerald Kennedy Memorial

The life of former United States President John Fitzgerald Kennedy ended too soon, in the city of Dallas on November 22, 1963. As the Presidential motorcade traveled through Dealey Plaza in the West End Historic District, assassin Lee Harvey Oswald shot and killed the president. The John Fitzgerald Kennedy Memorial, a 30-foot high and 50-foot square concrete cenotaph, was erected in 1970 to honor his life.

Visitors to this open-air memorial will see a black granite slab in the center of the memorial, with the President's name inscribed in it with gold. It was designed by American architect, Philip Johnson and symbolizes the free spirit of John F. Kennedy. It remains unique, in that, the construction was funded by the residents of Dallas. Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge

The bridge opened on March 29, 2012 and features a four hundred foot central arch pylon that can be seen for many miles.

The opening ceremony was attended by 40,000 people and included a wonderful display of fireworks, performances by Lyle Lovett, Jonathan Tyler and the Northern Lights, celebrity chefs, a street fair and a Trinity River Levee 5K and 10K Run. Southern Methodist University

A private institution, Southern Methodist University is set just outside of Dallas, and was established in 1911. SMU features an array of schools offering degrees, like the Dedman School of Law, the Perkins School of Technology, and the Lyle School of Engineering. Nearby cities include Garland, and Rockwall - both wonderful cities of the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

SMU fields competitive teams in most of the major sports. SMU football is widely known for it's "death penalty," a punishment levied in 1987 when the school was found to be paying players and recruits. A devastating penalty, SMU lost it's entire 1987 season, but since has moved beyond that, and will be competing in the Big East in the 2013 season.

West End Historic District
