More Area Attractions & Services

  • 5 mile(s) from Texas State Capitol, is widely recognized as one of the nation's most distinguished state capitols. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986.
  • 6 mile(s) from Lady Bird Lake, the reservoir was formed in 1960 by the construction of Longhorn Dam at its eastern boundary by the City of Austin. The western end of the lake is bounded by Tom Miller Dam, built in 1939. The lake was created for several reasons, including the need for a cooling pond for the Holly Street Power Plant, which operated from 1960 until 2007. The reservoir was also envisioned from the beginning as a recreational venue for the city. The Town Lake area has been turned into a usable recreation area. A system of hike and bike trails was built along the shoreline of the lake in the 1970s.
  • 4.5 mile(s) from Barton Springs Pool, within Zilker Park's 358 acres lies one of the crown jewels of Austin - Barton Springs Pool. The pool itself measures three acres in size, and is fed from underground springs with an average temperature of 68-70 degrees, ideal for year-round swimming. Over the years, Barton Springs Pool has drawn people from all walks of life, from legislators who have concocted state laws there to free-spirited, topless sunbathers who turned heads in the 1970s. Robert Redford learned to swim at the pool when he was five years old while visiting family in Austin. Today, Barton Springs still attracts a diverse crowd of people and has seen record setting numbers of visitors nearing 800,000 in recent years.
  • 5 mile(s) from Bullock Texas State History Museum, more than 7.5 million visitors from around the state and all over the world have explored Texas history and culture since it opened in 2001. Last year, the museum had a record-breaking, award-winning year. In the coming year, the museum will feature special exhibitions on Texas music icon Stevie Ray Vaughan, historic music festivals such as Woodstock, the power of propaganda, and a premier national collection of American flags.
  • 4 mile(s) from Sixth Street, whether you love it or loath it, Sixth Street is one of the most iconic streets in Austin. It’s the epicenter of what made Austin the “Live Music Capital of the World.” There are three sections of Sixth Street in Austin: West, East and what locals refer to as Dirty. West Sixth is the section of Sixth Street that runs west from Congress Avenue. For the most part, the nightlife scene ends at North Lamar Boulevard. Technically, and according to street signs, East Sixth starts at Congress Avenue and runs east, but that’s not what you’ll hear from locals. We refer to the section of Sixth Street that stretches from Congress Avenue to I-35 as Dirty Sixth. Then East Sixth is anything east of I-35. Don’t get confused by the street signs; you’ll be talking like a local in no time.
  • 6 mile(s) from Mount Bonnell, also known as Covert Park, is a prominent point alongside the Lake Austin portion of the Colorado River in Austin, Texas. It has been a popular tourist destination since the 1850s.

  • 1.7 mile(s) from Charles Alan Wright Fields at the Berry M. Whitaker Sports Complex, currently closed for remodeling and will reopen in the Spring 2017, located at the University of Texas at Austin. Manages 8 facilities both on and off campus.
