Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Garden

Covering 66 acres, the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is located in east Dallas within the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area.

Set on White Rock Lake, the Dallas Arboretum was built in 1940 – and now found on the National Register of Historic Places.

Formerly the 44-acre Rancho Encinal, the gardens today features the DeGolyer Home, Alex and Roberta Coke Camp, the Lay Ornamental Garden, and more. Other gardens include the Jonsson Color Garden, and A Woman's Garden – and soon the Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden.

Open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the arboretum features events like the annual Dallas Blooms, Concerts at the Arboretum, and the Tour des Fleurs.

Dallas Heritage Village

History is alive in the Big D. Visit the Dallas Heritage Village for a glimpse into life as it was between 1840 and 1910. This educational village is located in the Old City Park, the first city park built in 1876 on the south side of downtown Dallas. Then 21 buildings were transported to the site to establish the village.

Millermore, an historic plantation home, was saved from demolition becoming the first building to be rebuilt on the site. It opened in 1969 as a museum.

Stroll through this wonderful collection of historical artifacts and buildings to learn more about the history of Dallas and the surrounding areas. Many area students visit this wonderful historical village during field trips where they become engaged in 19 century life.

Dallas Love Field

Named after First Lieutenant Moss Lee Love, Dallas Love Field began as an Army flying field in 1917. By 1929, the first passenger service was provided by Delta Air Service. Dallas Love Field has been the headquarters for Southwest Airlines since they began flight service in 1971. Due to Southwest Airlines' success, additional commercial airlines began offering flights from Love Field.

This northwest Dallas airport was also used for flight training during World War II by the United States Army Air Forces. At the end of the war, an additional runway and terminal were added and commercial flights resumed. The airport remained the main airport for Dallas, until the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport opened in 1974.

General aviation is fully supported at Love Field, with seven fixed base operators. General aviators have everything they need for flight service, including hangar rentals, aircraft maintenance, chartered flights, restaurants, and car rentals.

Dallas Museum of Art

The 68-acre arts district in downtown Dallas, is home to several significant city landmarks and facilities promoting the many facets of art. The Dallas Museum of Art remains one of the premier attractions in the district. This extensive museum, established in 1904, showcases more than 25,000 pieces of art in its 370,000-square-foot building.

Dallas World Aquarium

The aquarium began in a renovated 1924 warehouse in 1992, and is now an accredited member of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums. Visitors will see a display of animals and flowers from 14 countries, five continents, three oceans, and several rivers and seas.

The Orinoco-Secrets of the River rainforest exhibit, the Borneo exhibit, the South Africa exhibit, and the Mundo Maya exhibit are prominent areas of the aquarium and zoo. Encompassing 277 acres, the famed Fair Park is located in downtown Dallas. Both a Dallas Landmark and a U.S. National Historic Landmark, Fair Park features dozens of attractions for visitors to the Dallas metropolitan area – including nine museums, six performance venues, and North America’s largest Ferris wheel.

Constructed in 1936, Fair Park legendary structures found on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places like Hall of State, the Museum of the American Railroad, and the Women's Museum.

Other Fair Park attractions include the Cotton Bowl, the Texas Museum of Automotive History, and the Music Hall at Fair Park.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy Memorial

JFK Memorial

Commemorating former United States President Kennedy, the John Fitzgerald Kennedy Memorial is located in the West End Historic District in downtown Dallas.

The memorial is a 30-foot high and 50-foot wide cenotaph; erected in 1970 to honor JFK.

Visitors to this open-air memorial will see a black granite slab in the center of the memorial, with the president's name inscribed in it with gold.

The JFK Memorial was designed by American architect Philip Johnson, and symbolizes the free spirit of John F. Kennedy. It remains unique, in that, the construction was funded by the residents of Dallas.


Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge

The skyline of Dallas is dotted with several iconic landmarks and skyscrapers. The Renaissance Tower, Comerica Bank Tower and Fountain Place are a few of the postmodernist skyscrapers in downtown Dallas.

One of the newest Dallas landmarks is the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. This beautiful six-lane bridge designed by Santiago Calatrava, crosses the Trinity River, connecting Woodall Rodgers Freeway to Singleton Boulevard. This West Dallas cable-stayed bridge spans 1,870 feet in length.

The bridge opened on March 29, 2012, and features a 400-foot central arch pylon. Over 40,000 people attended the opening ceremony, which included fireworks, performances by Lyle Lovett, Jonathan Tyler, and the Northern Lights – plus celebrity chefs, a street fair, and the Trinity River Levee 5K and 10K Run.

Perot Museum of Nature & Science

Established in 2006, the Perot Museum of Nature & Science is the result of Science Place, the Dallas Children's Museum, and the Dallas Museum of Natural History merged in southern Dallas. Located in the 277-acre Fair Park, this Dallas museum is comprised of the Nature Building, the Science Building, and the Planetarium Building.

Visitors of the Nature Building find an impressive collection of paleontology, herpetology, and entomology specimens. The Science Building is home to a massive exhibit hall, with over 200 hands-on exhibits on health and more – all in addition to an IMAX theater. The Planetarium Building engages its visitors with space exploration exhibits.

Southern Methodist University

A private institution, Southern Methodist University  was established in 1911 in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Set in University Park within Dallas. SMU features an array of schools offering degrees, including  the Dedman School of Law, the Perkins School of Technology, and the Lyle School of Engineering.

Visitors to SMU's 230-acre urban campus may explore the Meadows Museum and Pollock Gallery, or check the event calendar at the McFarlin Memorial Auditorium, Moody Coliseum, and Bob Hope Theatre. SMU is also home to the SMU Mustangs of NCAA's Division I. 

Stevens Park Golf Course

On your next trip into Dallas, bring your clubs and book a tee time at Stevens Park Golf Course. A top course to play in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Stevens Park Golf Course is southwest of downtown Dallas. Stevens Park Golf Course was renovated and redeisgned in 2011.

West End Historic District
