Most Popular Area Attractions

Dry Comal Creek Vineyards

What began as 103 acres of wild mustang grapes and dewberries in the 1970s, is now the thriving 5-acre Dry Comal Creek Vineyards. The vineyards were established in 1992 by Franklin and Bonnie Houser, in the San Antonio area northwest of New Braunfels. The following year, they planted 4,000 Vitus vinifera vines, resulting with their first wine by 1998. After a series of bad luck with flooding and disease, the Housers found a disease resistant grape known as Black Spanish.

Their success with the Black Spanish grapes has made them the "pioneers" of Black Spanish wine in the state. Stop by the tasting room to sample this delicious award-winning wine. They include the French Colombard, White Black Spanish, Orange Muscat, Comal Red, Black Spanish and 1096 Port. Take part in the event, "Order of the Purple Foot", the annual Grape Stomp for a fun afternoon at the winery. Kick up your purple feet in a comfortable Best Western guest room, for an enjoyable night's rest.
