Visiting Austin & Hill Country
Travel to Austin this summer and explore, not only the Texas state capital, but also the eastern region of Hill Country. Austin, known as the Live Music Capital of the World, is an exciting city with a wealth of attractions fit for any member of the family.
Head to the Deep Eddy Pool for a summer cool down – one of the oldest public swimming pools in Austin, Deep Eddy Pool was built in 1915 and features a unique 35-foot hand dug well. A short drive from downtown Austin, visitors also travel from nearby Cedar Park, and Round Rock.
During the summer, keep cool with a fun family visit to the annual Austin Ice Cream Festival. Make your way to Fiesta Gardens on August 4 and enjoy games, live entertainment, and, of course, loads of ice cream.
Get geared up for an authentic taste of Austin at the Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival. Held on August 26 at Waterloo Park, the Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival features amateurs and professionals vying for your approval with their unique home made sauces. Make the trip into Austin from Taylor, or further east from Rockdale.
Looking for the excitement and pageantry of Texas college football? Head to the Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium, for Texas Longhorns games. Fans from across Hill Country, cities like Bastrop and Buda, make the trip on game day to support their favorite team in white and burnt orange. Check out the Longhorns take on the Wyoming Cowboys in their home opener on September 1.
Are you traveling with the kids and looking for a fun afternoon activity? No sweat, just head over to the Austin Convention Center on August 31, for the LEGO Kids Fest.
For a taste of local brews, make your way to the Alamo Drafthouse, or check out the Jester King Craft Brewery. Guests travel from as far north as Waco to visit the Alamo Drafthouse – with it’s unique offerings of dinner and a movie, plus an array of alcoholic beverages, there’s little stopping you from having a great time. Imagine your favorite restaurant, only with movie screens.
Waco is another of the sterling cities set within Hill Country. North of Austin, and minutes from Marlin, Waco visitors usually make time for Baylor University football. Head to Floyd Casey Stadium and join close to 50,000 Baylor Bears fans as they battle the Southern Methodist University Mustangs on September 2 – their home opener.
