Visiting Austin & Hill Country
Austin is legendary for its music, restaurants, bars and culture. The capital city of Texas and seat of Travis County, Austin is a hub of Texas Hill Country. This is the season Austin celebrates the motto "Keep Austin Weird" at the Long Center with the 2013 Keep Austin Weird Festival & 5K. Bike your way to West Riverside Drive on June 22nd for Austin’s big summer party with music, family fun and local artisans. The evening 5K is more fun than just the race – wear a costume and get creative for KAW. Filled with Texas pride, Austin and surrounding Hill Country communities celebrate summer with fantastic events and traditions.
Kick off summer fun Memorial Day weekend in Fredericksburg at the annual Crawfish Festival. Hosted by the Fredericksburg Jaycees, the 2013 Crawfish Festival takes place May 24th to 26th at the Downtown Marktplatz. The fun includes the carnival with Crawfish races and food concessions, featuring everything from crawfish and shrimp to fried alligator and turkey legs. Three days of entertainment include Bart Crow, Bayou Roux, and the Wallburg Boys among the lineup.
Texas tradition in Llano is the Llano Pro Rodeo & Parade. The Llano Rodeo Arena hosts the Llano 79th Open Pro Rodeo & Parade June 7th through June 9th. The festivities feature the Saturday morning parade followed by a BBQ on the square and a dance that evening. See bronc bustin’, bull riding, barrel racing, and mutton bustin’ each evening at the Llano Rodeo.
Taylor, to the northeast of downtown Austin, celebrates their Texas roots with events at the East Williamson County Events Center. The 2013 Taylor Truck and Tractor Pull, June 28th and 29th, livens up the community. Taylor joins the spirit of Texas Rodeo on July 19th and 20th with the 64th Taylor Rodeo. Presented by the Taylor Rodeo Association, this is an authentic community rodeo open to all who want to participate.
End summer 2013 in the True Heart of Texas Richards Park in Brady. The Brady/McCulloch County Chamber of Commerce hosts the 2013 World Championship BBQ Goat Cook-Off August 30th and 31st. Along with the cook-off, enjoy an opening dance with the Travis Parker Band, an arts and crafts fair, and the 5K Goat Gallop. Don’t miss Saturday’s street dance with the Kevin Seale Band on the courthouse square.
