Visiting Austin & Hill Country
The weather is heating up and so is excitement for a summer full of fun in Austin. Long sunny days set the stage for countless outdoor activities, from explorations of Hill County parks to dipping into swimming holes like Barton Springs Pool. What's more, local event calendars in communities from Austin to Blanco to Coleman to Madisonville are filling with more special events, festivals, sports, and family-friendly fun than any other time of year.
Summer sunshine also means it's time to get back out on the links, and the Austin area boasts numerous top-flight golf courses. Head to the south side of town to play the 18-hole Jimmy Clay-Roy Kizer Municipal Golf Course, which is an especially nice facility. Players visiting Bastrop, Cedar Park, and Round Rock will definitely find it’s worth the short drive.
It's also a great time of year to explore the lush and diverse Hill Country landscape by packing up the car and embarking on a scenic driving tour. Countless uniquely Lone Star State attractions await in all directions and towns like Temple, Bryan, and Fredericksburg make ideal places to stop and rest.
Still, all the action is in Austin. From June 9th through 12th, the 2016 ATX Television Festival celebrates what critics call modern television's golden age. It's just like a film festival – just for TV. Come see series premieres, screenings of current hits and cult classics, and meet-and-greet with industry leaders, all spread across downtown Austin. Grab your passes today.
This year's iteration of Austin Symphony's July 4th Concert & Fireworks just might be the best place to celebrate Independence day in all of Texas. It's a day full of patriotic fun for the whole family, culminating in a dazzling fireworks display with a soundtrack provided by the Austin Symphony.
Fredericksburg visitors won't want to miss the 2016 Sommerzeit Festival on July 16th. That's when Gillespie County Fairgrounds host a Mexican Market, German biergarten, and tons of Texas country music for all to enjoy. Check local listings as the date draws near for specific event times.
For music lovers in Austin, the 2016 Austin City Limits Music Festival signals the official end of summer. Spanning two weekends – September 30th through October 2nd and October 7th through 9th – the festival brings some of the biggest names in music to Zilker Park. This year's headliners include Radiohead and LCD Soundsystem. Get your tickets before they sell out.
