The first U.S. settlement on the Rio Grande, Eagle Pass was established during the US - Mexico War. In 1849, the permanent Fort Duncan was founded. After the Civil War, the site became a burial plot for the confederacy. Today, Eagle Pass sits as an international gateway and tourist center as well as the seat of Maverick County along the border. Eagle Pass is situated right along the MX-TX border, is easily accessed from Highway 277, and his not far west of Carrizo Springs. While in Eagle Pass, explore a bit of local history and lore with a tour of Fort Duncan Museum – open Monday-Saturday with free admission for kids under 12 years old.
