You'll find Dectur on your next visit to the Fort Worth area – half way between Bowie and downtown Fort Worth along Highway 287. Cruise west along Highway 380 and make a day of it at Lake Bridgeport, an ideal summer destination. Decatur TX, established in 1856 as Taylorsville, is the seat of Wise County.

There's some interesting history in Decatur – the famous Butterfield Overland Mail Route passed through the town in the mid-1800s. Decatur is also the site of the trial and hanging of five Peace Party conspirators in 1862.
