Visiting Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex
As the Dallas Cowboy football season wanes in north Texas, a diversity of holiday season events fill the calendar. The Holiday Trail of Lights at McKinney’s Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary; through December 23rd, A Christmas Carol is presented by the Kalita Humphreys Theater on Turtle Creek Boulevard; and the Texas Motor Speedway shines with its Gift of Lights. All too soon, it’s lights off for Dallas holiday attractions. No worries though, the Cotton Bowl Stadium lights up for the New Year's Heart of Dallas Bowl and in Arlington for the Cotton Bowl. Football, the holidays, more football – it doesn’t get better than Dallas this season.
January 2013 launches with a double-header football week in the Dallas Metroplex. The inaugural Heart of Dallas Bowl, takes place on New Year's Day at the original Cotton Bowl Stadium at Fair Park, in Dallas. The action moves to Arlington and Cowboy Stadium for the 2013 AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic, on January 4th.
Chihuly Nights is a must-see exhibit at the Dallas Arboretum. Scheduled through December, prioritize an evening visit to the Arboretum for a stroll through Chihuly Nights, featuring beautifully illuminated works of glass, by artist Dale Chihuly, artfully set through out the Dallas Arboretum grounds. Cirro Energy powers the exhibit, which closes December 30th.
Celebrate Dallas' County History & Culture at the Old Red Museum. Visit the museum through January 13th and take a step back into your childhood, at the American Childhood: Celebrating Classic Toys exhibit. A convenient walk from the West End in downtown Dallas and the DART Union Stations, the Old Red Museum showcases over 100 vintage toys and games along with nostalgic re-creation of a Woolworth’s display window. Long forgotten toys from your childhood, come back to life at the Old Red Museum.
The Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary in McKinney, showcases nearly 290 acres of natural northern Texas landscape and wildlife. Geared to offer kids a positive outdoor experience, The Heard brings Dallas and north Texas residents and visitors together, with the natural Texas environment. Through February 3rd, stop by McKinney’s Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary to enjoy its 45th Anniversary Celebration.
Add the Big D Climb to your New Year’s challenges. Good for you, as well as benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the Big D Climb is north Texas’ biggest stair climb challenge. Ivie and Associates of Dallas are sponsors of the 2013 climb on January 26th. Join the fun in downtown Dallas at Fountain Place, on Ross Avenue. Get ready for 52 flights of stairs or 1,040 steps – which ever gets you motivated.
