Ah the Sun City, otherwise known as El Chuco, but most commonly referred to as El Paso. Set along the Rio Grande, El Paso is a major metropolitan area of western Texas. Home to Fort Bliss, Sun City is reached by Interstate 10 by roadtrippers, and the El Paso International Airport by those looking to fly in and have some fun.

Founded in 1680, El Paso has some serious bragging rights when it comes to historic sites. Check out the Chamizal National Memorial – operated by the National Park Service – or stroll through the Centennial Museum and Chihuahuan Desert Gardens, the El Paso Museum of History, and the El Paso Holocaust Museum and Study Center.

If you’re trying to get active in El Paso, hit a few rounds at the Ascarate Municipal Golf Course, the Horizon City Golf Course, and the Underwood Golf Complex. You can also get crazy at the 25,000-acre Franklin Mountains State Park – an aerial view of which you can see from the Wyler Aerial Tramway.

The Buena Vista neighborhood, neighboring the University of Texas at El Paso in the western part of the city, is your place for restaurants and nightlife. Pop in to the coffee shops, bars, and eateries along Cincinnati Avenue, and the surrounding area.

The performing arts scene is vibrant in El Paso. Watch the history of Sun City with Viva! El Paso – a weekly performance during the summer at McKelligon Canyon Amphitheatre. You can also check the event calendar at the UTEP Dinner Theater, and the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, Broadway in El Paso, and Ballet in El Paso.
If you’re a sports fan, El Paso does not disappoint. El Paso hosts the annual Hyundai Sun Bowl college football game, plus the many other varsity teams at University of Texas at El Paso, including the UTEP Miners men and women’s basketball, softball, and soccer.
Other El Paso teams include the El Paso Rhinos hockey team and the El Paso Coyotes soccer team at Sierra Providence Event Center, and the El Paso Chihuahuas baseball team – an affiliate of the San Diego Padres – at Southwest University Park.
