Established in 1923 as Texas Technical College, Texas Tech University is located in Lubbock – and set in northwestern Texas.
In 1925, the first 914 students were enrolled at Texas Tech University, pursuing engineering, home economics, agriculture, and economics degrees. This research university has expanded throughout the years – spanning 1,800 acres – to become the largest higher education institution in the Texas Panhandle. It remains the only university in Texas to also encompass an on-campus medical school and law school.
With more than 31,000 enrolled students, Texas Tech University is also a member of the Big 12 Conference. The university's Red Raiders compete in a variety of sports, including basketball, football, cross-country, golf, tennis, and track and field. Catch the Masked Rider lead the football team to the field at Jones AT&T Stadium, or enjoy a campus tour.
