Texas State University
Texas State University, located in San Marcos, was established in 1889, as the Southwest Texas State Normal School. In 1903, the first 303 students were enrolled to study teaching in the Old Main building, the first building constructed and included on the National Register of Historic Places. Throughout the years, the university has expanded to encompass 457 acres of land, in the Southern Plains region of Texas. Texas State University remains the only higher-education institution in Texas to have a former United States President as an alumni. In 1965, Lyndon B. Johnson graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree and a teaching certificate.
The university's 34,000 students pursue undergraduate and post-graduate degrees from the university's nine academic colleges, in its fifty departments and schools. The Texas State Bobcats soon compete in the Western Athletic Conference in a variety of sports. Visit the beautiful campus to walk through the Quad, the center of campus to view the "Fighting Stallions", the 17-foot-high sculpture. Stay close to campus in a comfortable Best Western guest room and enjoy your time in the Lone Star State.
