Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Reserve
The Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Reserve is comprised of freshwater wetlands, mudflats, grasslands, thorny brush, and coastal prairies, along the southern border of Texas and Mexico. Endangered ocelot, white-tailed deer, black-tailed jackrabbits, American alligator, and a variety of bird species live and feed in the reserve.
Many bird species migrate to the reserve, while other bird species find refuge in the grasslands. Enjoy kayak tours, nature tours, guided nature walks, birding tours, and fishing in the reserve. Local San Benito schools incorporate the reserve's environmental education programs into their curriculum. Learn more about the reserve, by stopping by the visitor center and viewing the exhibits and video presentations.
