Gladys Porter Zoo
The Gladys Porter Zoo is a wonderful botanical and zoological park encompassing 26 acres in Brownsville, south of San Benito. Established in 1971, the zoo has grown over the years to house nearly 1,600 animals from 400 animal species. There are also more than 250 neo-tropical and tropical species living in the zoo.
Preservation and conservation remain an important focus of the zoo, along with providing animal education to its visitors. Visit this accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums for a fun day in the Asia, Africa, Indo-Australia, Tropical America and Small World exhibits. The Botanical Garden, Herpetarium and Aquatic Wing are also visitor favorites. While in the Texas/Mexico Border area, rest comfortably as a guest of Best Western hotels.
