Dyess Air Force Base
Established in 1942, Dyess Air Force Base is located south of Abilene, and serves the United States Air Force with its 7th Bomb Wing unit. It's one of two North American B-1B Lancer bomber wings in the Air Force. With 36 aircraft, the base remains the Air Force's premier operational B-1B unit.
This 6,400-acre base is operated by nearly 13,000 military and civilian personnel, and employs over 5,000 people. It's one of the largest employers in west Texas. The base has been a key component in Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Visit the base to view "Linear Air Park" – a large collection of 30 aircraft from World War II to present times.
